Nest Cam NC1102ES Review
The Nest Cam can display video in high definition, which means you get top-quality, sharp video so you can identify objects and people easily. In our testing, the camera recorded clear video during the day, and it performed better in low light than any other internet camera we tested.
In total darkness at night, security camera system the Nest Cam didn’t do nearly as well as the best IP camera. The invisible LED lights are bright, but they illuminate too brightly near the lens. This means objects directly in front of the camera are somewhat washed out, and objects just 15 feet away are hard to see.
The camera’s field of view is on par with most IP cameras – you can see about 130 degrees, which is less than the human eye can see with peripheral vision. It’s definitely enough to get a clear picture of what’s going on in a room. You can zoom in on an image or video to get up to eight times closer using the app.
This IP camera has two-way audio, home security camera  so you can talk to someone from your smartphone through the camera. The Nest Cam, like all of the IP cameras we reviewed, has motion detection.
You can control your Nest Wi-Fi camera’s motion detection with the app by choosing what Nest calls “activity zones.” If you want to only monitor movement near a door, you can set that as a zone in the app, and Nest only notifies you when someone triggers the motion detection in that specific area. Whether you’re setting up the options or browsing through video history, the app is easy to use. Setting up Nest Cam was simple, too, although you may run into trouble scanning the QR code that connects it to the Wi-Fi.
During our hands-on testing, we noticed only a slight lag between when movement occurred and when it showed on the live video stream, ip camera review but it wasn’t significant enough to be an issue. The Nest Cam works with the Nest family of products and its smart home integration system. For example, if you have specific smart lightbulbs hooked up to the Nest Aware smart home hub and your Nest Cam senses motion, the lights turn on as if you’re home.
